The guest

Nicolas Legewie is a postdoctoral researcher at the Socio-Economic Panel at German Institute of Economic Research (DIW Berlin). He is currently working on “The Children of Immigrants Coming of Age,” a mixed methods study of children of immigrants and their educational and labor market trajectories in Germany. His research interests include social inequality and mobility, migration and integration, education, empirical social science methods, Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). At LEST, he will work with Ingrid Tucci on the “Children of Immigrants Coming of Age” study and give a workshop on Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA).

The Workshop

Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) is an analytical tool to combine in-depth case analysis with systematic cross-case comparison. It can also be used to analyze large-N data. It is especially useful for studying multiple paths to explaining social outcomes. In this short workshop, we will discuss basic principles of QCA, as well as issues of practical application. The main goal is to give participants an overview of the approach and discuss possible applications in their research.
